  • Open Rehearsal
Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at 5pm
FREE
Stewart Theatre, Talley Student Union

Lucky Plush Productions is graciously opening their studio doors as they finalize Rooming House. Step into the creative process as award-winning choreographer and artistic director, Julia Rhoads works diligently with her team of dancers and technicians. Collaboration is a key element of Lucky Plush’s success, and this open rehearsal lets you witness just how this company functions.

You’ll get an inside look at the artistic choices that go into making a new work of collaborative dance/theatre. Experience their joys, and well as the bumps and bruises along the way. Rooming House explores how we use stories to make cases for what we believe in and how we alter perceptions of what is real. We encourage you to come to the open rehearsal for insight into the process and then return to see how the artists’ vision comes into focus in the work-in-progress performance on Friday, September 15 at NC State LIVE (see more info about performance below).

Designed for intermediate to experienced dancers and actors, this workshop explores the ensemble-based creative methods behind Lucky Plush Productions’ nationally acclaimed dance-theater work. Following a simple warm-up that includes improvisation and vocal exercises, participants will be led through a collaborative devising process in which they turn actions, movements, and stories into short group compositions. The workshop will culminate in a very informal sharing of participants’ dance-theater experiments.

In addition to experiencing a condensed overview of the company’s artistic philosophy and devising tools, the workshop will provide insight into the creation process of Rooming House. Co-presented by the NC State Dance Program.
