About the Performance
“There isn’t another band like this anywhere. … a music experience you simply must witness.” – Time Out New York
“Tommy Igoe’s drumming defies the laws of physics.” – International Jazz Herald
Remember when jazz clubs were smoky places you stumbled upon by following your ears down a dim staircase? Birdland, known as “The Jazz Corner of the World,” is one of those clubs. And the Birdland All-Stars, led by the great jazz drummer Tommy Igoe, have been thrilling audiences for a decade from their New York haunt. Returning to the road for the first time in five years, the Birdland All-Stars have created new arrangements featuring the music of David Bowie, The Police and Steely Dan, as well as fresh treatments of iconic compositions by Charlie Parker, Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock.
Bandleader Tommy Igoe has been featured on multiple Grammy award-winning recordings and recently won the coveted 2014 Modern Drummer Reader’s Poll award for “Best Jazz Drummer.” His published works have attained bestseller status on every relevant list worldwide and many are required coursework at top-tier collegiate music schools and conservatories. Tommy also created the drumset book for Disney’s Broadway production of “The Lion King” where he also served as the production’s Associate Conductor from its inception.
