About the Event

Jazz legends Regina Carter and Kenny Barron have each headlined concerts on our stage and now they’re coming together for an intimate yet epic duet of violin and piano.

These two prolific artists are stewarding jazz into the next generation, melding the past with the future for our 50th anniversary season.

Violinist Regina Carter is a recipient of the MacArthur “genius” award and a Doris Duke Artist Award, as well as a three-time Pulitzer Prize jurist. She has thrilled NC State LIVE audiences six times over the course of our history with her breathtaking jazz violin. The Los Angeles Times  calls her, “a talented, charismatic player who is almost single-handedly reviving interest in the violin as a jazz instrument.”

Honored by the National Endowment for the Arts as a 2010 Jazz Master, Kenny Barron has mesmerized our audiences with his elegant playing and infectious rhythms. Jazz Weekly calls him “the most lyrical piano player of our time,” and, of course, we agree.
