Acclaimed Taiwanese choreographer and inventor Huang Yi is in residence with NC State LIVE for a week of events from November 11-16, 2024. Named by Dance Magazine as one of the “25 to Watch,” Huang Yi blurs the boundaries of dance and robotics and has captivated audiences across the globe and on the TED stage. His residency will include artist talks, class visits, a panel conversation on humanity and technology, a robot party for local families and two performances of HUANG YI & KUKA. Meet the Robot Workshop

In this workshop for Allison Beaty’s Current Trends in Dance course, students from majors across the university will meet Huang Yi and his company members and explore a section of HUANG YI & KUKA, learning the choreography and getting a glimpse into the programming process.

Get creative with robots! This matinee will include a special condensed version of Taiwanese choreographer and inventor Huang Yi’s HUANG YI & KUKA, an ethereal dance with a giant industrial robot.

Stick around after the show to meet Kuka the robot and chat with the choreographer Huang Yi. Then, head to the lobby for a post-show celebration with a makerspace, battling robots and maybe even a robot dance contest!
