Artist Residency

These artists will be in residence with NC State LIVE from September 27 to October 3 offering free bluegrass jams, guest talks, matinee performances and more.

Bluegrass visionaries Hank Smith (banjo) and Pattie Hopkins Kinlaw (fiddle) return with their band to NC State LIVE for a week-long artist residency. Hank & Pattie are noted for their innovative twist on traditional bluegrass music, mixing in influences of classical, Motown, jazz and pop.

This residency adds an international flavor, with our North Carolina-based artists joined by the Icelandic folk band Brek, the 2022 winners of the Icelandic Music Awards for album of the year in folk and world music. Brek plays original folk music inspired by multiple genres, creating a unique soundscape that transcends musical boundaries.
