About the Event

Jazz saxophone and woodwind artist Alexa Tarantino wowed us in February 2023 when she played here with the inimitable Cécile McLorin Salvant. Given her sheer talent onstage combined with her kindness backstage, we knew we had to bring her back. In addition to touring with Cécile, you’ll also find Alexa on the road with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, and her own Alexa Tarantino Quartet (who will be performing with her in Stewart Theatre).

Alexa holds a master’s degree from Julliard, a bachelor’s from the Eastman School of Music and is adored by critics. She’s been triple-nominated as a Rising Star Alto Saxophonist by Downbeat Magazine’s Critics’ Poll from 2020-2022, and was named one of the Top 5 Alto Saxophonists of 2019 by the JazzTimes Critics’ Poll. Be transported to a hip basement jazz club with one of the most gifted multi-instrumentalists around.

Pre-show Talk

Join us for a moderated chat with Alexa before she steps on the stage. This is your chance to ask questions to a rising jazz star.

Friday, March 1 at 6:30pm in Talley, Room 3222

Class for NC State students

While Alexa is in town, she’ll lead NC State student musicians in a jazz workshop. This is a rare learning opportunity for students to spend time with a professional touring musician.
