a pas de deux of unexpected poetry

– TIME

Dance plus robotics, yes please! Acclaimed Taiwanese choreographer and inventor Huang Yi and his robot companion KUKA blend razor sharp precision and stunning artistry, harmoniously weaving together the art of modern dance and the science of mechanical engineering.

This poetic performance reveals humanity through a series of vignettes between live dancers and KUKA, a giant industrial robot conceptualized and programmed by Huang – a rigorous undertaking because a single minute of choreography takes 10-20 hours of programming. Named by Dance Magazine as one of the “25 to Watch,” Huang blurs the boundaries of dance and robotics and has captivated audiences across the globe and on the TED stage.

Join us after the performance for a panel discussion on humanity and technology moderated by Rachel Levy (Executive Director of the Data Science and AI Academy), featuring Valeria López Torres (College of Design faculty), Dasan Ahanu (local poet and playwright), and Huang Yi (choreographer).
